Could I be fired for helping to break up a fight? *long*
On monday I was shift leading at my restaurant job. We only had 3 servers working and all 3 of them have drama going on that stems from outside of work. One of the servers, i’ll call her A, told me that another server, T, was getting on her nerves because she was talking about our new hostess, H. T was calling H lazy and saying she didn’t know how to do her job and stuff like that. H is still new and had only worked by herself a couple of time before monday so she is still in the process of getting the hang of things. H overheard T saying this stuff about her and was upset about it and almost ready to just walk out. After I clocked in A and the other server, B, were telling me that they were sick of T being the lazy one and how she wouldn’t make coffee when she used the last of it. About 15 minutes after I had clocked in A called T out for leaving dead coffee and told her to stop being lazy. T told A to mind her business and that A is lazy about a lot of things too. A ended up calling T a “lazy b*tch” to which T responded by telling her to not call her that and got right up in A’s face. They were yelling at eachother when T ended up pushing A, causing A to push her back, causing T to swing on A. They literally started physically fighting causing me and B to try breaking them up. It was a struggle for us since they were both clawing at eachother and rolling around on the ground. H, the host, jumped in also trying to help us get them apart. H literally ended up getting sucked in under them causing her to hit her head on a metal pole. Once we got them separated, A had a bloody cut on her face and ended up walking out while T went to the back. I followed A out to make sure she was ok and that she was good to drive. When A got in her car, H was walking out too. H told me she wasn’t going to deal with that stuff when she’s a high school kid working to support her son. H also has a broken foot so she wear a boot. She was just about to walk home when I told her to wait by my car so I could let our manager know I was going to drive her home. H had rolled her already broken foot during that whole ordeal and was in pain from that. I dropped her off and went back to work. H messaged me a little after that telling me that she was going to the hospital because she thought she had a concussion. When I went back to work my manager had me write a statement, I wrote down just about everything I’m writing now. Later that same day H messaged me again telling me that she had a concussion. After my shift I went to her house again to check on her and bring her popsicles. She showed me her discharge papers that said she had a concussion, lost consciousness for 30 minutes while at the hospital, had a sprained neck and a bruise steaming from her neck to scalp. H is only 17 and her mom is wanting to press charges against T. A had also mentioned pressing charges against T too. My manager hasn’t let A or T come back to work, but last night she told me and B that we also couldn’t come back to work until HR dealt with this since our company has a zero tolerance for fighting. I was already scheduled to be off for today, but i’m supposed to work all throughout the weekend and next week. Could B and I lose our job for helping to break up the fight? Everything is on camera so the managers and HR would be able to see that we were only trying to help and we’re not actually involved.
