Never had a pap smear before

I’m 23 and a virgin. I’ve never had a Pap smear done before. In my state, they don’t make you/unless necessary have a Pap smear done until you turn 21 unless your sexually active. I’ve been taking birth control pills since I was like 17-18. I haven’t had a checkup with the gynecologist since 2 years (I had a checkup ajd he said he’d see me next year, the front desk lady said she’d send a postcard with my appointment and never did) now I have ran out of refills and they haven’t called any in. I’m super anxious and embarrassed to have a pap smear done…. How did you girls get thru it? My doctor is a male btw.
