Anybody here have a non verbal child?

Mine says mama, dada, and gaga everything else he says in sign language. We didn’t start as early as we should have, but he’s picking up on signs really quickly. Up to about 22 words. He can hear ok. Just doesn’t want to speak.

Mine is the same way. I’m not worried because he’s receptive to us and understands everything we say. I think he’s just lazy to talk. He does mimic and is very nonverbal using a lot of body language.

Over here! 🙋🏻‍♀️ We’ve got one consistent word (“more”) and about 3-4 signs. His receptive language is very good (maybe even advanced), but his expressive language is very far behind. He doesn’t have interest in talking, he barely even attempts to mimic sounds we make unless there’s incentive. He doesn’t have signs of autism, so it’s not that either. He’s been in speech therapy for about 6-7 months and I’m not convinced it’s helping, but if you haven’t tried it, you definitely should talk with your Pediatrician.
I’m not sure this is helpful other than to say you’re not alone!

We were WAYYY behind on speaking but she signed a BUNCH. She would say one or two words and then all of a sudden this morning she said “good morning” and I was like wtf. So she definitely understands and maybe she’s just lazy to talk or doesn’t want to? I don’t know. All I know is that she only said maybe 5-10words and a few animal sounds. 🤷🏽‍♀️ she turns two in exactly a week

My kid turns 2 on the 17th and she has about 20 words. I truly believe she’s just stubborn and doesn’t want to say things we ask lol. She understands so much and nods and shakes her head when asked things. She also will bring me things when I ask and when we tell her to give kisses to her brother or us she will. I was a delayed talker too and I was fine. I’m honestly not worried. She dances and copies the characters on her shows too.
