Crib or toddler bed?

Question

My son will be 2 on December 17. He is still in his crib and never tries getting out or anything and he sleeps well. How long should he be in a crib? Should i leave him as long as he still sleeps well and doesn’t get out? Have you transitioned to toddler beds?

I think it honestly all depends. Our son we transitioned just after he turned two. The reason for that was because I was pregnant with our December 19’ baby and wanted to get our son into his bed and comfortable in it by the time our daughter arrived. If it wasn’t for that I probably would have left him in his crib longer. Now with our daughter about to turn two next month I’ve been thinking about it but I honestly can’t fathom her being in a regular bed yet. I don’t think she’d stay in it haha. I feel like bed time would turn into even more of a disaster. She still doesn’t try to climb out either so I’m not in a rush. Bedtime is chaotic with both my kids. Between getting them both down, my son getting out of bed a million times for every silly reason under the Sun, and nap time currently being a big regression i don’t know if I can trust her in a bed alone yet. I think I’ll definitely have her out of the crib by age 3 though. I can’t imagine having her stay in one longer than that.

We aren’t anywhere close and my son will be 2 next week, haha. He sleeps with a toddler pillow and blanket but he is still all over the place like a baby, he’d be falling out all night 😂

Studies say until 2.5 or 3 or until they climb out. We were hoping to go that long for our daughter but we are expecting our second at the end of february/beginning of march so we transitioned her to a full size floor bed with railings that can be converted into a full bed later. She has never gone to bed easier and its been great to cuddle her. She did try to come out once or twice but we just locked the door until she was asleep and she doesnt try any more. She also gets up in the am and comes to our room when shes awake. Its super cute and we love how easy the transition was for us. The only thing that stinks right now is she will skip her naps at times because she can just read in her room instead.

Our kids have the same birthday! Mine is still in her crib and I plan on keeping her in it until 3 or until she learns to climb out of it. She sleeps just fine in her crib and hasn’t tried to climb out or anything. We haven’t introduced a blanket or pillow yet but I think we will give her a blanket soon.

We transitioned ours at 19 months but only because he crawled out. His mattress was all the way down to the floor and he was super determined until he was successful. After that it was common for him to climb out. So we transitioned.

We tried to switch my daughter to a toddler bed 3 months ago and she wanted nothing to do with it but she was trying to climb out so she ended up with a twin mattress on the floor for 2+ months and she loved it; we got her a twin day bed a few weeks ago and she loves it, we keep the lower bed pulled out partially to help her climb into her bed and in case she rolls out but she hasn’t at all. If she wake up she will play with her stuffed animals or look at books until we get her out of her room.

We turn 2 in 3 days and she is still in her crib. I didn’t transition because this child has not slept in 2 years so if she has the option and or opportunity to “get out of bed” she won’t sleep for the next 10yrs 🤦🏽‍♀️🙈😣
