I am flabbergasted !

So my mother in law had asked for money for Christmas this year so she could pay for presents for the kids in the family. No problem, my husband and agreed we would do this and give her her Christmas money next week. Well my husband was texting her asking you know “how much were you thinking” type of stuff and this women has the AUDACITY to tell us she wants $400! $400 freaking dollars! So basically we’re paying for the entire family’s Christmas presents…. She’s never been good with her money and we’re doing well off but come on, I could never ever ask someone for that much money. What do you guys think? Is this outrageous or am I overreacting? I was thinking like $150-200 max…
