Wrong of me or okay?

I am trying to teach my 3.5 some independence. He has always been a very clingy baby and is even more so now a clingy toddler. He will rarely play without me actively engaging with him. But as he is starting preschool soon and I am completely being burned out from playing trucks all day, I decided to start to deny playing with him. This morning he was literally screaming at me to play trucks with him and I said “no mommy is going to get some computer work done, I am right here with you while you play next to me.” He completely lost his shit in a tantrum but after about 15 minutes he started playing by himself. Is this the right way to go about this?

Yes, I think it is. I would personally acknowledge that he feels frustrated that I can't play and that's okay.
And then let him go crazy and play.
Regulating feelings are hard 😅

That’s what I have to do when my kids are home and I still have to work, so I think you’re fine. You’re modeling your own independent time and giving him the opportunity to learn from you.

Absolutely that’s the right thing to do!  Independent play is very important for stimulating the imagination and keeping parents sane.  Keep up the good work 👍🏼

I think it’s fine as long as you’re acknowledging his feelings. Kiddos have to learn that they can’t always have what they want, when they want it. We can show them it’s okay to have feelings about it but they still need to live with it.
