Is this fair?

Is it OK to ask my sons father to pay $700 a month. This is only half of daycare - yes daycare is like $1407 a month so is it reasonable to ask him to pay for half?
FYI. He does not pay child support or anything - no I've never taken him to court for it and I don't plan on it.
He indicated that he and his folks - so our sons grandparents too - want to help in any way they can - so I want to ask for half of daycare.

I wouldn’t make any deals without it going through the courts. That’s how you’ll wind up getting screwed over in the end.

I would. I have some employees that pay child support through the state and others who just pay the mother directly. It depends on your co parenting relationship and how healthy it is. If you do decide on an agreement out of court I would still write it out and you both sign it so you have a place to start with a lawyer if things go south one day.

I would sit down the two of you, go over the monthly budget, and break it down, between daycare, diapers, etc. and whatever you can’t afford, definitely his contribution or grandparents even if they really want to contribute, I would definitely accept the assistance. As a parent, he should be paying half of the expenses for the child. Especially if you’re not living together. And if it comes down to nickel and dime and fighting over money, That’s why the Court is there to help you. They come up with a set amount or percentage of his income that he hast to give and contribute for a child. If you have 50% custody, child support usually is less. But the parent who has less custody usually pays the difference. I don’t think it’s unfair to ask him to pay half the daycare, I would ask him to pay half everything actually and if he disagrees, then that’s what the courts therefore. And for the Parents that don’t want to pay, that’s what garnishment from paychecks is for, to protect you I have a child. Unfortunately when it comes down to money, people don’t want to lose money or be inconvenienced. Good luck and I hope thanks get better.￼

Is half the day care the only thing you’d be asking him to pay toward? 
I would look over your overall out goings for your son and round up that figure and give him a breakdown, I think it’s only fair he pay more toward the upbringing of his child
