so i’m 17 and i had unprotected sex last night. he didn’t even cum though and before i even had unprotected sex my period was 3 days late. is this all a recipe for an unwanted baby?

Baby girl, at your age your cycle can be irregular for a multitude of reasons from stress to not ovulating on a definitive schedule. 
Firstly, yes, it’s definitely a recipe for an unwanted pregnancy because if you haven’t got your period yet because you haven’t ovulated at the usual time or if you ovulate closer to the end of your cycle, even if he didn’t finish it can still happen.
Most people will say that precum (the small amount of semen that comes out during foreplay) doesn’t have any sperm in it, but that is somewhat untrue because while it may not always contain sperm, it can. Precum will definitely have sperm in it if he had ejaculated some time prior to actually having sex without urinating between times.
My advice to you is talk to a doctor about birth control and learn to track your cycle.
Tracking your cycle based on your vaginal discharge and charting it on an app or calendar will help be able to determine when you ovulate and when you’re fertile.
Essentially you can’t get pregnant until you ovulate, that egg only lives for 24 hours but your vaginal discharge and cervical mucous change within the 7 days surrounding ovulation and these changes make your vagina able to keep sperm alive for a few days so that they can fertilise the egg, meaning that even if you haven’t ovulated yet, if you’re in your fertile period any unprotected sex can cause pregnancy because the sperm can live and search for the egg until it’s released. Outside of your fertile window and outside of ovulation, your vagina is too acidic for sperm to survive and so instead they try to find an egg that isn’t there and die off relatively quickly.
What you need to remember is that creamy or watery discharge means you’re not ovulating or fertile and most likely will not get pregnant, but if your discharge is sticky and can be strung between your fingers with a clear egg white consistency, that’s when you can get pregnant. However you need to check this before you have sex otherwise the semen will change the consistency because semen starts off sticky (because it’s made to stick to the cervix so that the sperm can get into your uterus) and soon after it will tern kind of watery as it starts to break down.
