Spring wedding?

My fiancé and I have been together for 7 years, and are wanting to get married in the Spring. I want a very small, very intimate wedding. Very immediate family only. We are 35 and 42, and do not want to spend a shit load of money, as we would rather spend that on our much needed time away/honeymoon. Who’s done a DIY wedding? Suggestions, advice, anything is greatly appreciated.

I did a lot of DIY my first wedding. It adds up quickly! Shop sales! I know you said spring wedding but example would be red being your color buy a bunch of decor/flowers after Christmas and Valentine’s Day when all the stuff if on sale. Also maybe check out party supply rental places. My first wedding was 300 people. That’s 30 ish tables, 30 vases I purchased. Wtf do I do with 30 vases after the wedding lol. I tried to sell them but ended up donating them.

We did a partial DIY. 50 people in a private room room at an upscale restaurant for a luncheon on a Friday (I was able to really negotiate the pricing down because I told them, look, I know full well no one else is going to want your room on a Friday afternoon, I want a good deal). No open bar, just wine and champagne by the bottle. Cake was a 3 tier from the grocery store, they delivered it, it was just as beautiful as a fancy bakery. I hired a florist for the canopy and mine and bridesmaids bouquets, but did my own centerpieces and tealight candles. Hired an independent guy as a DJ, he had the proper equipment, I just gave him a playlist of what I wanted. Hired a photography student to take photos, she did a good job. It was about $5k total but still felt like an elegant event. We got married mid March.

DIY doesn't always mean cheaper. I would give vendors a fair chance before trying to DIY things. Think about what you can borrow. The easiest way to save money is to cut back/not do things. We cut things like favors, did a limited drink menu, catered it ourselves, etc.

We did, and like the comment before.. it does add up! Always shop sales and look on apps that sale things ( like OfferUp ) they usually have stuff cheap and it’ll be in your area! Ask everyone to bring a main dish and whatever alcohol, if they wanna drink! And you can supply water/tea/sodas. If you got a fam member that smokes meat or grills, that’s also a great way to do it ( buy bulk from Sams/Costco ) that save a lot! We had someone takes pictures for us, and someone to be a DJ with a playlist they made, so that saves alot too if you want to do that!
