Flowers for a man?

I’m going on a “first date” tonight with this guy I’ve been seeing. We’ve hung out a couple times but this is our first time going out. We’re seeing a movie and then going to an art showing at the local college. My question is, would it be weird to get him flowers? I was thinking just a simple rose. He’s 27 and I’m 23.

My husband loves flowers! He used to volunteer at the hospital florist and gardens. If I see a pretty bouquet or single cut flower, I often bring them home to him. It all depends on the guy but I think we do men a disservice by automatically assuming that they wouldn't  like it.

i bet you would make his life if you brought him a flower. if you think about it, men don't get flowers or showered with compliments frequently or anything since they're "supposed to be so manly" or whatever. most of the time men are looked at to be the ones who bring flowers and compliments you and does sweet gestures, but really it should go both ways. my man will never admit it to anyone else but he's a big baby! i read a post of a man saying he couldn't remember the last time he was complimented and when someone did for the first time in a long time it made him cry, so i started complimenting my man more than usual and tried to every day and his smile got so big everytime i did! despite what most men want you to see/think, most are soft beings who crave love, affection, and attention but usually get deprived of it because of the stupid stigma that guys are supposed to be manly and not like those things. which they for the most part created that toxic masculinity theirselves but whatever. bottom line, get him a flower!

I say do it. Not all men will like the idea but you know him and we don’t. If you think there’s a chance he’ll like them go for it…it might make his night! He can leave them in the car like you said so he doesn’t have to carry them around. I don’t think it sets a precedent either. If buying a man a flower is going to make him feel like he doesn’t have to try in the relationship or take care of you he wasn’t going to do it anyway.

I've gotten flowers for my husband, he loves them! After a while I started growing them in our garden and will bring in a bouquet I pick for him at least once a month, more during summer months. He doesn't expect it and he's always genuinely grateful for the gesture. I mentioned to him about people saying it is not "masculine" to get flowers but he feels it takes a strong person to be who they are and not care about outward appearance and just live their life their way and enjoy the fuck out of every moment. We say go for it!!

This hyper masculinity for men and devaluing a woman's right to do, buy, be whatever she wants in a relationship is gross. As a mother of a young boy and a wife to my husband of almost 8 years I seriously hope these stereotypes do not get passed on to the next generation. A man can receive a flower and truly appreciate it. A woman can give said flower and not feel like she's going to be taken advantage of in a relationship or she's selling herself short to the world. I mean, I wouldn't, but that's because my husband isn't a flower guy. I would get some snacks for him to "smuggle in" to the movies. It will show you thought about him and it would also make for a fun story to tell later on.
