Prodromal labor… When do you know it’s real??

Alyssa

So I am 37+6. I’ve been having prodromal labor for weeks. Every few days. I’ll wake up with diarrhea and then here come the contractions. They come every 3.5-4 minutes and last 45-90 seconds. It’s annoying as heck. They’re strong and I would say relatively painful, but I can talk and walk through them okay. They don’t go away with water, food, warm bath, position change… I’ve been hospitalized for it once already and my doctor was sure I was in labor, but alas, I never progressed and after 36 hours they went away. I’m only dilated to a 1. I live an hour from the hospital on a good day. My doctor just told me to come when the contractions are painful or my water breaks. But here’s what I’m confused about… I’ve always been induced. These feel nothing like pitocin contractions, those make me want to die. But they do feel like cytotec/cervidil contractions, which got me to a 7-8 on their own with my last two inductions. And 7-10 takes me about 20 minutes. Now I don’t know when to pull the trigger! Every time it happens I do my best to ignore it, but I’m always nervous I’m going to end up going too late! But I also don’t want to go and be sent home either. Thoughts?
