Question for Stay At Home Moms??

Question

What career job does your spouse have in order to keep the family running good financially? Does your partner make enough for you and the kids to have everything you want and need, or is it a struggle and ever feel like you’re barely getting by?
Just looking for honest opinions. My husband is a mechanic, and we’re going on the 3rd child. Oldest is 3 and I’m 26. We’re barely getting by. I’m a SAHM temporarily and wanting to go back to work. But just wondering how life could be if we were more financially stable.

My husband is in IT and makes enough for us to be very comfortable. Honestly IT/cyber security and other network defense jobs are great. You don’t even need a degree, just certificates.

My husband has an online business. Because it isnt a steady paycheck, some months we bring in excess, other months it's tight. I used to work until I was pregnant with my 3rd,  they are all close in age so we were looking at daycare/paid preschool for 3, by the time that was paid minus my taxes, I would be earning $4 an hour. It wasnt worth it as I was not loving my career at that point either. We really try to minimize our expenses. My kids roomshare, younger kids wear mostly hand me downs, no going out to eat or take out exceptaybe 2-4x a year, I try to meal plan inexpensively eg lunch is veggie lentils and for dinner tonight it's smaller portion of chicken and extra black beans, I make dry beans (cheap) in the slow cooker, so it is nutritious but inexpensive. We do not do big birthday or holiday gifts, we keep them to a minimal and on birthdays we get balloons for everyone (inexpensive compared to lots of toys, but the kids are happy) no big parties. We share a car but my husband mostly works from home so thats doable for us. We dont do Netflix or other subscriptions or big cable bills. I dont feel like we go without, a lot of the things we used to spend on I now realize were unnecessary. I may work again at some point, but right now I would rather be home and cut expenses.

Pregnant with baby number 3 and never plan to go back to work lol 😂. I was in the healthcare field and with the way things are now I just couldn’t see myself doing it anymore. My husband is a Chef/cook. We live comfortable and my husband does not have the best income. We budget and save. Own both of our cars so no car notes. We also pay bills up with income tax but still pay every month as if we aren’t paid up. That way if something happens unexpectedly we don’t panic. He’s just coming off of being home for 2 weeks because I had Covid and we honestly didn’t blink an eye because we have learned how to be good with our money.

My husband is a pharmacist and we have 2 kids. We live in the bay area in CA so everything is pretty expensive. We live pretty comfortably right now (house, car and get to spend on what we want without worrying much), but if we do have a 3rd child, for sure we would be struggling with only 1 income. That's why we decided to stop after having 2 kids.

We do fine. My husband recently left the military, so that's about $800 less dollars a month. We've adjusted and now we just budget more. I'd rather have him around than have more things or eat out more or whatever though. He works in finance. I stay home with our two (soon to be 3) kiddos. Eventually I will return to work, but we will be fine until I do. ❤️

My partner is a teacher in NYC which pays well. But living in NY is hard, financially. I am staying home until we feel more comfortable sending our babe to daycare (COVID-wise). I’ve been home longer than we planned for so it is tight with our mortgage and car payment  but we are scrimping everywhere we can to make it work for now.

I worked in finance for 8 years and my husband is a sales manager for a multinational clothing brand. We saved a lot before we had kids because I knew I wanted to be able to stay at home. So we had no debt when we bought our house, we put down a large down payment so we would have a low monthly mortgage, and we live very comfortably but well within our means. I meal plan and coupon, we bought most of our baby stuff secondhand; but we feel comfortable doing nice things on occasion (going on vacation, out to dinner, buying new clothes if we need them, etc) and we always plan things around a reasonable budget. His salary is enough to cover our monthly expenses and put away a bit in savings, and he gets a bonus each year that varies depending on performance, so we never count on that money in our budget, it’s just a nice windfall at the end of each year. We aren’t rich, and I THINK about money a lot, but I don’t really have to WORRY about it.
