Sex during recovery

So this a super weird question, but I know my boyfriend will be way too bashful to ask his doctors.

He recently ruptured his appendix. It perforated, causing a good sized infection in his belly. They have decided to delay removal of the appendix until it heals more and the infection dies down. He has 3 drainage bags in his belly to release all of the fluid and infection, but the abscess has closed itself. Once the drains output less than 10 cc’s a day, they can be removed and he will recover for 6-8 weeks before the appendix finally comes out. He is home though, and aside from having to clean and empty the bags, he’s pretty much normal.

All of that being said….. I have no clue what our limits are for sex. With him being so sick the last few weeks, we have had barely any physical contact and I can tell both of us are kind of going crazy. He has asked if we can have sex but part of me is worried that it’s not a good idea with the drains. Obviously it’s probably better if we wait until they come out, but even then I’ll probably still be paranoid that I’ll re-rupture his appendix or something lol.

Any advice??
