Mom's of toddlers.. Is this normal behavior?

My son just turned two. He is constantly trying to rip books/paper. He eats the paper. When we are outside he is always trying to eat grass, rocks, dirt... No matter how many times I have told him no and taken it out of his mouth.
He was just diagnosed with a speech delay, possibly from birth trauma but cause is still unknown. 
Do you think these two could be related? Or are those behaviors typical for a toddler?

You should look into being seen by an occupational therapist. It sounds like he is craving oral stimulation (my 17 month old is the exact same!!). Even talk to your speech therapist about it. You may need to provide teething toys or oral stimulation toys. But also, remember to redirect. Say “we can’t put rocks in our mouth, here’s your toy that you can.” It will help remarkably!

My daughter will be 2 in March and still puts everything in her mouth. She is a very slow tether so I know part of it because of that. But I read that it’s very normal behavior. Our pediatrician has never been concerned

Ask at his 2 yr well child appt. Our oldest never was one to put stuff in his mouth but it seems that by age 2 they should be out of that stage or not actively trying to eat non-food items. Our 18mo still puts stuff in her mouth, but that’s a 6mo development difference.

My toddler was never a ‘mouther’ so I’m not exactly sure if it’s considered normal to still be putting things in their mouth at two to be honest. Have you talked to his doctor? Maybe he has pica?
