Dairy protein allergy = no milk?

I plan on checking with my doctor at my sons next appointment but my curiosity is getting the best of me so I thought I’d see if you guys have any answers! My son is 11 months and since he was about 4 months old we discovered he had an allergy to the dairy protein in his formula. We switched to a hypoallergenic formula and all has been well but I’m starting to think about weening from the formula and was just wondering if this means he won’t be able to have cows milk? And if that’s the case, any suggestions as to what to give him?
