Is it just an act?

So I recently I ended the benefits part with my fwb of a couple of years. We still are hanging out. But strangely he’s been messaging me more and somehow making an effort? I never came to my house because I still live with my parents but he drove an hour at 10pm at night to my place just to hang out. And now we’re going out for dinner, we’ve only done that once over the past two years. 
I don’t know if he’s just doing all this to get me to change my mind. Does it seem strange?

When it comes to men, never assume anything, sometimes they’re being nice, sometimes it is coercion, sometimes it is in hopes to get what he wants like I said, or sometimes I do have feelings, but only time will tell. Unless it comes out of his mouth, take anything with a grain of salt. Sometimes they like the girlfriend experience but without the responsibility of a relationship, or he could just miss hanging out with your hopes that it’ll eat somewhere, just take it day by day, don’t overthink it, just go with the flow

Mayb he has feelings and has had them. He is probley thinking it's his opportunity to make a real realationship by yu breaking it off it opened the door for him to be serious. Don't give in to him and see if he continues to try. If so then it's for real.
