An ladies with episiotomies first birth not tear the second?

I had an episiotomy with my first because I just couldn’t get his head out. My doctor said I may tear along that scar or not at all. Just hoping I won’t have to have another because I go unmedicated during labor 😬

I had an episiotomy with a second degree tear with my first. With my second I had no episiotomy and just got a little graze.

Most women who have had an episiotomy will tear along the scar. However, this can be a good thing! Natural tearing and the way it heals can be much healthier, especially if you have scar tissue or pain in the scar. Also, I tore with my first (coached pushing, on your back, and with an epidural is a recipe for tearing. If you have an epidural, push laying on your side, and not coached) and it was not that bad. It healed quickly, was a little sore and itchy. No issues here though.

I tore the worst with my first, tore less with my second, and just had an abrasion with my third.

I didn’t get an episiotomy, I ended up tearing because since I was a young mom (18) and it was my first time the doctor basically forced me to push even when I wasn’t contracting causing me to get a 2nd degree tear inside and out (over 10+ stitches required). With my second though I went to a better hospital and my tear that time was the size of a paper cut.

I had an episiotomy with an epidural the first time and had to have one the second time too even though things happened so fast the second time I couldn't get an epidural. Honestly, the pain of birthing itself drowned out any pain from the episiotomy. I was vaguely aware of it happening but I didn't register the pain from it and they gave me a local anaesthetic before stitching me up.

No episiotomy here but I did tear with all 3 of my births. My last one being the least with a first degree tear. I think it just happens sometimes. I heard there are things you can do help not tearing like a perineal massage a couple months before giving birth.
