When to tell children you are expecting another?

I have a 3year old daughter and I’m 12 weeks tomorrow, had my scan and all is looking good 🙏🏻 
She might not be too surprised as we have talked about having another baby and she already says she wants to be a sister 💖💙 Am just not too sure if it’s too soon as she has no concept of time and will expect it here instantly 😅 I’m just excited to tell her now but my mum says it might be too soon?!

What we've told our 4yo is that I'm trying to grow a baby in my belly, and he's seen the pictures from my first scan at 9 weeks. One way of trying to explain the time thing is you can tell her that right now the baby is the size of a plum, and every week the baby will grow a little bit bigger but it won't be ready to meet you until it's about the size of a pumpkin. And then every week or so you can update her on how big baby is so she can see that it's getting bigger and bigger. If you google "baby is the size of fruit chart" it'll bring up pictures of charts you can print off and then mark off each week as a countdown of sorts.

To update you, I told her yesterday! She took it well I think, we could see her processing it all and was very interested in the photos. Then lots of questions ensued 😆 first thing this morning she told daddy she was waiting for the baby girl to come out of mummy’s tummy! 😆 we don’t know what sex it is yet of course 💖💙

My daughter is 4 next week and our 12 week scan is the day after her birthday. So we will tell her once we’ve had a scan and have pictures to show her. Then tell family the weekend after her birthday when they come round for cake etc. 
We did want to tell her straight away but she’s so talkative the whole world would know and we personally would rather wait til the scan is all good to announce just incase. We have also got a private scan booked the week after her birthday so she can come with us and see the baby too 😊

This is my 4th baby, and my youngest is 3 (he will be 4 when baby comes) He alrdy knows that the baby is in my belly. I'm sure once I get bigger he will sure to get a kick out of it, literally 😆🖤💜🖤💜

I told my daughter at our first appointment when we had ultrasound so it was 10 weeks.  She doesn’t talk about it really at all. Sometimes she brings it up but not really a topic of discussion. So it’s okay for us.
