Do you disclipline a 2 year old for having tantrums?

Question

My 2 year old has tantrums frequently. 
She will have one if she wants candy and she can’t have it 
She will have one if she wants a toy and she can’t have it 
Anything along those lines. 
I don’t discipline when she has temper tantrums.  I explain why she can’t have these things, or why I am saying no.  To me it’s just my daughter regulating her emotions and part of normal development 
My in-laws have a problem with it tho and think I need to spank her when she has a tantrum.

No- why would I punish for not doing anything wrong? Is there a rule they can’t cry? Have a bad moment? Be mad? 
Now if they are hitting or something, that’s breaking a rule and needs discipline.

I just ignore them when they start their tantrums. My son is 21 months and sometimes can get violent , rolling around, kicking etc and I just pick him up and put him in his crib until he calms down.

She’s not doing anything wrong she just isn’t capable of regulating her own emotions yet. Children look to us an an example of emotional regularity at that age and are learning from us how to deal with their emotions. 
It’s super important that you don’t give in because if you do she will learn that that’s how to get what she wants but explaining, acknowledging she’s sad/mad, allowing her to pull herself together and then comforting her is what is recommended by many many leading child psychologists. 
Parent your child the way that you see fit. You know what is best.

Discipline varies by child and reason for the tantrum.   If she is wanting candy and you say no and she started throwing a fit pick her up (even if its difficult) sit down and talk quietly to her and explain that you understand that she is upset that she cant have what she is wanting but for now the answer is no.  Then explain that her behavior will NOT get her what she is wanting and whatever you do do not ever ever ever ever give her what she is wanting while throwing a fit.      With my kids I've found after doing what I just said they generally calm down.  If not we have time out to calm down.

What I’ve found works best is 
“Mommy said no to the candy right now. I know it’s hard, but I’ll be right here for hugs when you’ve calmed down and are ready” 
I would sit on the floor or keep doing dishes and he’d eventually give up and just want love

When my daughter  started  to have tantrums, and there were  times it would last for a large  amount of time. I would  put her in her room and close the door, I would  go back and check on her and ask if she was done if she wasn't  then she stayed  in her room. Once she had calm down then I would  take to her.

If I explain to her why she can't have what she wants or do what she wants and she still throws a fit and tells me no or slaps at me or anything I put her in time out for 2 mintues but sit down with her and explain to her why she's in time out and why she can't behave that way it seems to work really good for us

If there’s a fit whatever is happening stops. Leaving  a store, eating a meal, playing a game. Take her somewhere quiet and like another comment said explain that yelling does not get what she wants and keep talking till you see physical signs that she’s calm. Slowed breathing, completely done crying. Then ask if she feels ready to go back to whatever activity but with her best behavior.

I absolutely do. They are plenty old enough to understand at that age.
