Usa citizenship

Michele

Do you think the citizenship steps/requirements are too tough or too easy?

I’m an American citizen (born and bred 24 years) and moved to Australia, got married, had a baby. I couldn’t apply my daughter for citizenship in Australia because the consulate was closed and the embassy does not take on citizen services, only diplomatic services. Fast forward. We’ve moved to Greece and I’ve separated from my greek/Australian husband. My visa has expired here in Greece. The US embassy has advised that it will be many months until her citizenship is finalised because we are applying from a country she wasn’t born in. Should we return home without it she will undergo the green card process which takes years.

I know immigration is a hot button issue. But should we make the process easier for children born to us citizens? Should there be more legal pathways to immigration? What immigration reform would you like to see?

**edit to clarify....I TRIED TO APPLY WHEN SHE WAS BORN. The consulate in our state was closed for renovations and interstate travel was completely banned due to Covid. We could not just go to another consulate to do it. The embassy said it wasn’t an emergency so they wouldn’t help us get a waiver to cross state borders.
