Do you think of Nate as a nn for Ignatius?

So I was sharing some of my name list with my mom and she goes “I love Ignatius! We can call him Nate” and I FROZE. I NEVER thought anyone would get Nate out of Ignatius, I immediately got Iggy…. My abusive ex is named Nathan and now I’m debating taking Ignatius off my list all together over this.

I wouldn't come up with it on my own personally, but I wouldn't question it if someone used it as a nickname. 
It sounds like your mom would use it though, so you'd have to specifically ask her not to use it if you didn't want to hear it.

Hmm I think the wording of your post may have skewed the results.
So much of the polling on this site is basically asking the question “is this okay?” 
So when you wrote “Do you think of Nate as a nickname for Ignatius” my brain’s first assumption was that you were asking “WHAT do you think of nate as a nn for Ignatius” … as in, is Nate an acceptable nickname for Ignatius? and I almost clicked to vote yes, sure, why not, if that’s what you want. But then I stopped myself and read your whole post and realized you were asking would I have come up with the nn Nate for Ignatius? In which case the answer is no way, I would have gone with Iggy. Like Iggy Peck, Architect. 
But a lot of people vote before reading the whole post. So I don’t think these results are accurate.
So anyway. I think you should maybe ignore these results, wait a week, and post again with clearer wording. Or else try a different forum, like maybe Nameberry. “Would you assume Nate as the logical nickname for Ignatius or something else?” I think that would get you a much more accurate set of votes.

Nate could totally be a nickname for Ignatius, but it doesn’t have to be! I like Iggy! I’d still go for the name, because it’s not the first thing I think of.

Feel like most people would go for Iggy over Nate 🤷🏼‍♀️ Use whatever name you want, reality is someone will shorten it at some point so have a nickname prepared.

But I would not let your ex trash influence your happy future in any way.
