Would you let your 17 year old son do this?

So my little cousin who’s 17 , extremely smart, Yale bound, is a big avid biker. He’s biked 40 miles around the city of Atlanta. 
Now he’s decided he wants to bike from Anniston Alabama to his house which is in Atlanta. His parents are gonna drop him off in Anniston Alabama and they’re gonna drive back and he’s gonna bike back… 
First of all safety wise , it doesn’t sound safe. They have a tracker on him but it doesn’t sound safe to do that alone? 
Second- why does he need to bike 90 miles ????? I don’t understand. 
He’s going alone, no friends. If he had friends we would feel better about it..

I don’t think you really have to understand why he would bike 90 miles because it’s not your hobby, it’s his. Safety wise, it depends on his maturity level and if he’s being tracked and stuff. He should just make sure that he knows the route and avoids dangerous areas

I think it would depend on the maturity level of the kid and his ability to fend for himself. I would make sure he’s not going through any bad neighborhoods and would have to call me every few hours to check it and let me know the route so I would know if he went off course.

My husbands boss is an avid biker and literally rides his bike everywhere. He bikes to work every day (weather permitting) and it takes over an hour. Some people really enjoy long distance riding. I don't really think you need to understand why he wants to ride 90 miles. It's clearly part of the hobby and you're not into it and that's okay. However, I wouldn't be letting my 17 year old minor son bike alone that far without some way to track and make sure he's okay. As an adult he can do as he pleases with or without a friend. At the end of the day it's not your kid so it's not you or problem. They feel it's safe enough to let him do it. Hopefully he stays safe and updates his parents

If he was an avid biker, yes. Gotta take some risks that are worth it. He seems like a smart kid, parents are tracking him and 90 miles isn’t crazy. I say let the kid have fun
