Birth control postpartum

Did anyone NOT use birth control? My baby is 5 weeks old, my postpartum appointment is next week and I know this is gonna come up. But the thing is, I don’t really want to go on birth control again. I had a bad experience with the pill once upon a time as a teen, the implant I’ve heard things about fertility wise, and the copper IUD I had for a few years and I liked it but it was so painful to get placed and I was miserable for months after and I just don’t wanna go through that again with a young baby. That leaves condoms/ natural family planning/ pulling out which just isn’t so effective. And being honest here, condoms probably won’t be used religiously unless I know I’m ovulating. I’m BF so I’m not sure when my period will return but with my luck it’ll be soon LOL.

I know it’s leaving me with a risk of pregnancy. I do want to have another baby eventually, but obviously not right away. If it DID happen tho, we would be fine financially & happy about it. But I definitely don’t want to have another one within the next year or 2 if I could choose the timing. 🥴

So all that in mind is this super irresponsible? Should I go on BC even tho I don’t want to? What kind did you choose? Just want to hear what other people chose and if they liked it or what happened if they didn’t go on anything. Did you get pregnant right away?
