Asking someone’s ethnicity?

I’ve done this before on dating app, but wanted to get a general consensus. I’m a Black & Hispanic woman and sometimes I get curious about the ethnicity/race of dudes I match with especially when they’re pretty ambiguous. I always ask it in a respectful manner. I just wanted to know, is this weird?
