Is preschool really necessary?

My son turns 4 in August and is eligible for preschool. I’m just really nervous about sending him. I’m nervous about sending him to school in general. Like, so much shit goes down in school. So much bullying. Teachers being awful and abusive. I’m terrified. IYO is preschool really necessary? He just seems so much like a baby still.

I think it is. It's integral for his development to start getting into that rhythm and get the interaction with kids his age and learning to take direction from someone other than you. Try to find one that does half days or half week. Kids really blossom in preschool I find 🥰 (I used to be an aid in a preschool)

I consider it necessary for my kids. My mother works in kindergarten rooms and she’s told me it’s pretty obvious to educators who went to preschool and who didn’t. Those who did preschool usually have an easier time adjusting to the classroom environment, adjusting to time away from their parents, and socializing. She says they’re all pretty even by the end of the year but I definitely want to give my kids every advantage I can.
It also might be helpful for your anxiety about school to send him part-time (I think most preschools offer MWF or TTh) to get you used to the idea that he’s almost school age.

It's about finding a preschool you trust. We're sending our 3 year old in September. It's important for her to socialize in that environment and I think she will benefit from the structure.

To me it’s important as it gets children to socialise with people their own age and helps with development, the learning environment is different and pick up stuff that they can’t from home. It’s the best of both worlds for me

Preschool has worked wonders for our 4 now 5 year old.  It helped him socially, emotionally, helped him understand structured routine, he can write and spell his name.  He’s learned so much this year and above all, he absolutely loves it!  He can’t wait to start kindergarten in the fall.

Preschool isn’t just coloring n naps anymore they teach the kids. My son was learning sight words before the year was over, My son is 5 and reading now.

If it helps you understand, I live in the UK and school starts at age 4-5 here. The year group is named Reception. Most children also attend nursery the year before - aged 3-4.
I have taught Reception for years and I feel it's incredibly important.  If you're not sending them then I'd strongly suggest home schooling.
Try to focus on all the great experiences and learning they will have instead of thinking about any possible negatives.
