Preschool causing long term harm?

Last night I posted about it preschool was necessary in your opinion because I am nervous about sending my child this fall when he turns 4. I posted in my local Facebook group seeking preschool suggestions. I got some great schools to look up but some comments were telling me preschool is detrimental to kids and one posted this article from Psychology.com:

Has anyone heard anything about this? It’s suggesting that kids are put into too of rigorous routines too soon before they are mentally ready and that PreK creates anxiety and lack of creativity in children. I want to send my child to preschool for both his benefit and mine (I haven’t had a break in almost 4 years lol) but I also am curious if there is new research saying preschool is not the best option.

Public school is a new concept, invented within the past 100 years. Up until now children have been exclusively home schooled, so if you think about it in terms of that, the natural thing is for children (especially young children) to be with their family. We just started homeschooling 2 years ago because of Covid & all the dumb mandates, but we absolutely love it, the kids are actually thriving and way ahead of where the public school kids are. There’s a lot of research done on it out there, you just have to find it.

I liked my kids' preschool because it was very free play based. I had a bigger problem with K+ and saw a lot of these negative effects and now homeschool all my kids.

My kids loved pre school. It was more about socialization anyways. Music,singing, crafts and books. No pressure. No passing or failing.
Just learning to play with other kids. I see no harm in it at all.

One alternative would be to find a play-based program. I would agree that too much rigor isn’t beneficial for any young child, but there are wonderful programs that are less academic and encourage curiosity, play and movement that are beneficial.

I think if your going to look at research you should probably look at scholarly resources. My child had to go to daycare since he was a baby and now he's two so it's considered "preschool" he can count to 20 and say his ABCs and it's probably more advanced than most kids his age. Obviously, you can teach your kids these things at home but a lot of people don't. As well as he has built social skills already and loves going. He talks about his friends every day on the way home.

It's honestly what's best for your child and you though. If you don't feel like it's right then don't bring him, but your going to have too sooner than later probably for kindergarten so wouldn't hurt to start maybe half days or every other day to get him used to the structure. I just also want to add I some parents that don't take their kids to preschool or daycare work hard to give their kids social activities and teach them things but some don't (not judging just going to say my experience) but my friend who was a stay at home mom who didn't do any of those things kids were delayed because of it. Probably not just her but she didn't teach them things and talked with them like a baby instead of teaching them more words or correctly the baby talk more so by the time they went to kindergarten they needed extra help and speech therapy.

I was a preschool teacher... We did a lot of play based learning rather than classroom regimes all the time...
There was also an outdoor based preschool near us that was wonderful! It's all outdoor based Freeplay learning and children really thrived!

Every teacher I have ever met has said that preschool kids do better socially and academically once they start kindergarten.

Kids need a routine. My daughter goes to day and has had that routine since she started I even do the routine at home on weekends. Our town has half a day as well as a full day preschool. I'll be putting her in half day because she can still come out and take her nap. 
Honestly it's to each their own. If a parent feels it's too much then don't enroll them. But I think it will be harder to go straight into Kindergarten.
