Has anyone gone ona flight with a toddler? Will this work? (Read below)

Im flying in June with my son. He turns 2 in March. It says that children under 2 can sit on your lap, but over 2 they need their own seat and a ticket? Do they check these things? Even tho he will barely be over 2 years old. People i know says its fine but i don’t want to get stuck at the airport. Id prefer for him to sit on my lap, im flying with 2 other people and it would work perfectly. Also the flights right now are expensive 😭 $400 right now and id rather not spend any more

I’d say it’s pretty much a 50/50 chance, I’ve seen some people say they didn’t ask for birth certificates for the kids & some say that they did. A lot of times flights are more expensive for a same day ticket so if you don’t buy it in advance you take the chance of paying more, so it all comes down to id you are willing to pay more if the plan doesn’t work. Personally I would just keep checking on the ticket & see what you can do about finding the best price like if possible changing what days you fly bc certain days are way cheaper

Once they’re 2 they need their own seat. My sister flew across the world and had to pay soo much bc she thought her 2 year old would still be ok w sharing a seat. Nope need to buy their own seat

If you google it it says 23 months and 6 days can be a lap child and anything over that must have their own seat. 
It also goes on to say 9 times out of 10 no airlines will check but if they do, you will need to purchase an extra ticket. I also read that southwest checks every time but I don’t know if that’s true.

We flew with our now 2 year old a couple times when he was under 2. Once they turn 2 years old, they need their own seat. We literally flew the day before his 2nd birthday to avoid needing to buy a ticket for that flight! We had to show his birth certificate multiple times on both trips. There was only one direction that they didn’t ask… I don’t think it’s worth the risk to try to sneak him on without a ticket in case they ask and the flight is full. 😔

Over 2 means 3Years old & up lol so you’re good. I’ve had my daughter fly with me & they never asked to see her birth certificate or anything if it’s in the country. But if you are traveling outside the country they do need her passport & birth certificate. You just truthfully put the child’s age & your info when you book it that’s all

We use JetBlue for domestic and there is a place to put in date of birth. And they have every right to ask for supporting documents. You can check your car seat, or you can bring it on board since your child will be over 2 and need their own seat anyway. It is safer for them to be secured in their car seat than sit on your lap.
