Who to invite?

My husband and I are planning our son’s 2nd birthday. I want to keep it simple, but he has already started inviting people, like his co-workers. He even asked one of them to do a balloon arch, so it’s not like we can uninvite them or just not mention it again. With the coworkers, their spouses, and some have children, were adding 15 people to the list. That may not seem like a big deal to some, but we are on a budget, and we’re going to have to serve a meal because of the time we have to have the party to work around our son’s nap time.

I just made peace with it and honestly kind of hope some of them won’t be able to come. I want to add my SIL and niece plus SIL’s parents to the list, and my husband said that I was getting out of hand! He said that they don’t come to stuff and if they do they are usually late. Yes, this can be true, but still, they are family! (Just to clarify, my brother who was married to this SIL passed away several years ago, and she and my niece now live with her parents. They are lovely people and we used to spend holidays with them, so it’s not like they are just people I don’t really know or I’m giving them a pity invite. I consider them family also.) I’m already not including most of my nieces and nephews because they are adults, and/or work weekends, and/or I don’t have a way to contact them. Literally the only people from my family that are invited and will probably be able to come are my mom, 1 SIL, and 1 maybe 2 nephews. Everyone else in my family that I would invite has passed away or has a job that is very strict with time off, so they most likely won’t get to come.

I’m just feeling kind of hurt that my husband basically controls 90% of the guest list, and me wanting to add 4 people who may or may not come is a big issue.

I’m not really sure that I’m looking for advice. I just needed to type out my feelings and maybe see if I’m being hormonal (I’m 8 weeks pregnant).
