Am i a helicopter mom?

I have. 3 yr old who loves to play with others. He’s very extroverted and just loves to be around people. We live across the street from a 5 yr old
boy who isn’t very nice at times. The 5 yr old wanted my son to come over so I let him. They were playing tag and then the 5 yr old started throwing pinecones at my son. Of course none of the other parents noticed so I had to tell the 5 yr old stop. Every time my son plays with others I am
Constantly watching but I noticed the other parents just don’t. Am I being too much? I
Don’t want the other kids to not want to play with my son because of me but I also don’t want my
Son getting picked on.

A helicopter parent is someone who follows their child and keeps them from harms way excessively. 
You are just watching them play. Someone's gotta correct the child

I think you’re not being a helicopter parent. You’re just being cautious and aware because you’ve seen this kid bug your son before. I think any parent would keep an extra eye out

Sounds like you know when the right time to intervene is. Which wouldn’t make you a helicopter parent to me. Keeping an eye on your kid is just normal

Nope, I watch my daughter where ever she plays because she likes to play with older kids and I notice some like to take advantage because she’s little, but once they see she’s being “chaperone” they act accordingly. Their parents are usually not there or on their phones. When it comes to at home play dates, (only family members with babies around the same age) I lighten up. Some times they can get to play aggressive, but I can see that she’s learning how to handle situations when a cousin has a toy she was playing with, etc. Other situations I speak up for her.

You're way more relaxed than me. You're totally right to correct him, I wouldn't be letting my daughter go around without me. But I must be a helicopter mum as I don't leave her with anyone (all depends on personal circumstances though I guess, it would be different if my mum was alive) she's only 2 though. She will be going to SIL when I have baby number 2 though. Nothing wrong with teaching your child not to accept bad behaviour from others.

I am the same exact way & im like do other parents just expect that someone else in the room is gonna parent their kid? Like my husbands friends come to our house with their daughter & she snatches stuff from my daughter & when they play in the sand she will just crush whatever my daughter is building & they will be sitting right there & not say anything until I do. It’s soooo annoying. The kid will try to leave with my daughters toys & they will be walking out & im like y’all’s kid literally has her hands full of my daughters stuff & they act like they are blind until I say it. I’m so glad I saw this post bc I’ve been wondering if other parents just pretend they don’t have a child when they get around play groups.
