RSV??!

Question

My son is 5 weeks old and since yesterday has been coughing , had a horrible runny nose , and choking on his mucus. we are seeing the pediatrician in the morning. I really don’t want them to tell me it’s just a cold and send me on my way without checking for RSV. Can I ask specifically for a RSV test to be done , or do they usually do it automatically? Thanks!!

They’ll test for it upon request or suspicion of RSV. 
My son caught it at 12 weeks from his grandparents. I took him to the pediatrician and as soon as the nurse asked about his symptoms, she ran tests for covid, the flu, and RSV automatically.

With wheezing I wouldn’t wait until tomorrow. Take him to the ED now

If you suspect RSV go get a test asap. Demand they test for it. My son had it at 2 months and was hospitalized. It's nothing to wait around for. Best of luck!!

You can ask for them to test for rsv...tell them you'll feel more comfortable...also flu A has been going around like crazy.

Yes. They should run an RSV test. Have you called your on call pediatrician over the weekend? If baby is having any signs of having trouble breathing overnight take him straight to the emergency room. Any wheezing, retractions, etc don’t wait until the morning.
