Is it weird or no?

So I remember one night me and my boyfriend went out, his friends tagged along so did my friends. We went to dinner and I wanted to take a picture of my and my bf so I grabbed his phone it’s not like I asked him to unlock anything because I’m able to take a picture while it’s locked. He got hella defensive and snatched it. 
2 weeks ago we went to the movies and we was looking through my phone just pictures and everything. However, when I grabbed his phone he did the same thing and he was like I don’t exactly remember what he said but he said basically not to touch it 
Is it weird? He said that anybody would do that and yes that’s true but only to people that you don’t know I’m your gf lol
Last night I had brought it up and he was like what would I be hiding? And I’m not nothing you just defensive and he kept saying it Over and over again what would I be hiding but in a tone that seemed like he was idk if that makes sense 
I trust him I don’t think he’s hiding anything but when you do that it seems weird we’ve always been together for 1 year and like 3 months

He is absolutely hiding something. If he wasn’t hiding anything, he would have no reason to react like that especially considering he has access to your phone.

If he is going through your phone yet has an issue when you touch his that’s a big red flag 🚩 he probably is hiding something

I can see *maybe* him not wanting you flipping through old photos if he keeps his ex on there or something (still problematic though) but he wont even open it up to take a pic with you, yes red flag for me.

Is this fairly new? Has he let you touch his phone before? To me it seems like he is 100% hiding something if he's getting that possessive and defensive of his phone with yall being together over a year

So … I’m kinda on the fence about this. I’m not someone who believes that because you’re in a relationship that it gives you a right to someone’s phone. Everyone deserves their own privacy. (I’m not saying YOU think that way! I just know it’s a very common mindset.) My husband knows my password and has his face in my phone so he can unlock it if necessary and I have my thumbprint on his.  It is an understanding that if we absolutely need to use the others phone, we can. However, I would never just go through his phone randomly. I always, always ask if I’m going to use it (“Hey, lemme borrow your phone for a second.”) and he’s the same with mine. I would be legitimately pissed if I woke up or came out of the bathroom and he was just looking through my phone. He would feel the same if I did that to him. Neither one of us have anything to hide - it’s just the thing of “this is my property and my personal stuff and isn’t yours to go through at your leisure.”
Again, I know that is a bit different than your situation. I’m saying all of this to say it isn’t automatically suspicious to me that he might react possessive of his phone. Especially if it was suddenly grabbing it or doing it without asking. It doesn’t necessarily mean he has anything to hide - he just may not want someone rooting through his phone. 
You are the one who knows him best. Is this behavior something he’s always done? Is it new? If it’s new, THEN I would be suspicious.
