Family Lawyer

I started out paying the $3500 fee & during our phone consultation, she said it would cover everything till we went to court which we still haven’t been. It’s been over a year. I’ve since paid $1,000 more to keep my account at the $500 minimum balance. My ex has filed a motion to dismiss the case & the hearing has been canceled twice now. First time, my lawyer had an emergency come up & the 2nd time was a miscommunication between the lawyers & the court. Nothing has been rescheduled yet. I’ve paid out of pocket $4500 so far & now have a $0 balance after her last invoice. I feel like I’m getting charged for an excessive amount of fees & filings & am broke right now. Still trying to pay off the credit card from the money I’ve paid her so far. I feel like I’m getting over charged & nothing has been accomplished yet as far as court goes. She was misleading in the consultation & now says she never said that. I cannot financially start over with a new lawyer, I picked her because she seemed the most reasonably priced at first anyway. I’m financially exhausted & it’s frustrating having the hearing cancelled twice now. If the judge doesn’t grant his dismissal, then there will be the actual court hearing for the case which is all about modifying the current parenting plan which is all messed up because I didn’t know what I was doing at all & had no legal help or advice when I filled it out initially & my ex took advantage of that. Co parenting with a narcissistic ex is a nightmare. He somehow convinced me (anyone who knows a narcissist knows how they talk) to claim both our kids every year for taxes & has received thousands which he’s put towards his lawyer to fight me & himself/vacations. I receive nothing for our kids & of course I’m the one who spends more on them to make sure they have what they need. That’s a big part of the parenting plan other than time sharing that needs to be modified. My lawyer only seems to care about the money which is no surprise & I’ve just been wondering if I’m getting wrongfully charged. The invoices just seem so excessive for not even been to court yet 😞
