When toddler can climb out of the crib?

So I first got a crib tent and he absolutely hated it, he would freak out and it felt cruel. So I set up a bed with a guard rail and he won’t stay in the bed. So I got a baby gate hoping he would just fall asleep.. nope will scream forever by the gate. He won’t even stay in the bed with me laying with him (that’s what I did with my 1st son and it was no problem) So I don’t know what to do and now his sleep schedule is all messed up! Please help with advice!! I’m desperate… thx 😅
