Is this neglect?
A friend of ours grew up with the “keep going through the pain/walk it off it’ll work itself out” mentality and he hasn’t been to the doctor even when he needs to aside from forms/standard annual checkup (we’re in high school/we’re minors) in years. His parents tell him (and have been doing so since he was like 10) that he’s dramatic and complains/whines too much, so he stopped taking his own medical needs as seriously.
ie. He hurt his wrist lifting 2 years ago, he said he heard and audible crack and it hurt to touch it, wore a pharmacy brace for 2 weeks, then got annoyed by it and “worked though it,” but now he has bad control and mobility over some of his fingers and still gets aches and pins and needles. I know this bc he’s a pianist and he was talking abt how he hasn’t been able to play the correct chords since. His mom helped take care of it when it happened but never suggested that he go to a doctor.
Most recently, he got hit by a car when he was crossing the street. Luckily he was somehow fine. He said he tumbled 10-15ft to the curb (luckily it was cold so his layers protected him from getting scraped up). He literally just got up, checked on the driver, and went to school. He had some bruising but said he didn’t realize he hit his head on something till the next morning but when he told his parents they said he didn’t need to worry unless he had a headache or nausea tho he said it hurt to touch just by grazing it w hit hand. He said he was fine but shouldn’t they still have taken him to get checked out?
