Huge dilemma

So my child just competed in a martial arts competition over the weekend and earned a spot on team Canada. He will be competing in Worlds over in Ireland later this year. At the time who seemed super proud of himself and pumped, he was even excited about his accomplishment. Well fast forward to about an hour ago while I was putting him to bed he goes “I wish you guys would ask me first before saying yes to Ireland, because it should be my choice and I don’t want to compete” I’m so confused because as of yet he never mentioned not wanting to compete. Everyone thought it wanted to. It’s like he changed his mind out of nowhere and I don’t know what to do.
