Concerns

Forgive the length of this post. My wife and I recently took our first vacation since our son's birth. He is 10 months old. We work opposite shifts, so one of us has always been there for him, but we were going to be attending a music festival in the evenings over the weekend. My wife's sister was going to be watching our son during that time. We have started to notice some things that concern us and we're not sure what's caused them or what to do about them.

First, our son was crawling when we went in vacation. After the second day, he started doing an odd side crawl instead. He pulls himself along with his arms while one leg pushes slightly with the other leg turned away from the floor and essentially immobile. We've been told he didn't hurt himself and his legs probably just hurt from crawling on the tile. He's still doing this behavior on our carpeted floors. Is this normal or is he injured? We can't seem to find any tender spots on him.

Second, our son was regularly in his playpen for 30 minutes to 1 hour multiple times a day for independent play and to allow us time to prepare him or us food or bathroom breaks. Sometimes he wasn't happy with being put in there, but that usually only lasted a few minutes before he would stop fussing. Since coming home, any time he is put in his playpen, he instantly starts yelling. He doesn't usually cry, but once or twice he has. This has lasted for well over an hour once while we attempted to unpack after returning home. What could be causing this reaction?

Third, our son has a nightly routine to get ready for bedtime. He gets his diaper changed, goes from his daytime onesie to his overnight pajamas, then bed. We have an Owlet sock that we continue to put on him to monitor him. During this time, we have some of his favorite music videos playing in the background to keep him calm and not fidget so much. During our routine, I sit him in his playpen while I retrieve the sock then get him back out, put it on him, then finish the current song playing and go to bed. He never cries during this time. Tonight, after putting him in his playpen, he immediately started crying, ignoring one of his favorite songs. I was not even 15 feet away, in the same room. What could be causing that reaction?

Fourth, our son has good days and bad for his naps. I'm sure this is normal. However, today his first nap was maybe 30 minutes when it is usually an hour or more. I could not get him back to sleep. His second nap is usually an hour and a half but lasted maybe 45 minutes before he woke and again wouldn't go back to sleep. Is this him readjusting to being back home?

I know I'm paranoid and tend to over worry about things, but such sudden behavioral changes in my child seem strange to me. I'm not sure how to handle these things.
