When to head to hospital

Question

So I know everyone says when contractions start there are different timings to follow about when to go to hospital with active labor, our hospital is 1 hour and 30 minutes away from us so should we still wait till active labor kicks in or should we head there as soon as contractions start? Any advice or thoughts?

Is this your first? I was in early labor for a whole day then active labor for another 12 hours or so with my 1st. My 2nd was much quicker but from the very first contraction to delivery was still almost 12 hours.

I was in labor for 22 hours with my first but my doctor accidentally broke my water at my 40 week appt so he wasn’t ready and I had to be induced. With my second, contractions started at midnight. 5 mins apart, for a minute each, but I fell asleep waiting to see if they lasted an hour. I woke up about an hour later and I was still having them. Called my doctor and she said to come in. I ended up showering and we had to take my son 30 mins away, then drive 45 mins to the hospital. When we left the house, they were 3.5 mins apart and when we got there they were 2.5 mins apart. My water broke as I was getting undressed in triage. We got there at 4:45 am and he was born at 5:34 am. So I think it depends if this is your first or not, and how bad your contractions are when they first start.

Since my water broke, I went right away since our hospital was 45 minutes away. Still labored for 30 hours 😅
