HPV positive, need help understanding

So I tested positive for high risk HPV. I don’t know how I got it (I’m assuming it’s something you “get”), I don’t know how it happened. I spoke to my mother about it and apparently she told me that all the women in my family have tested positive for it. We also have a lot of cancer in my family. Right now there are two women with cancer. I do have an appointment for a colposcopy but it’s next week. So my question is:

- how could this have happened?

- is this the result of me being given an std in the past?

- can anyone on here relate to this?

- it’s definitely “high risk” but it’s not 16, 18, or 45. Could the colposcopy tell me exactly which one it is?

Disclaimer: I know most of you are not medical professionals so please don’t start with me on that. There is a support group on here for herpes so why cant I find support for hpv? I just want to see if anyone has a better understanding than I do.
