Bad Mom??

Question

I am having lunch with a friend tomorrow and will be taking my breastfed 3 week old with me. I considered getting a drink while we were there, just to sip on, but wasn’t sure what other people would think. I don’t want anyone questioning whether I’m fit to take care of my child while I’m there.

I wouldn’t see that as wrong. Safe to drive, safe to breastfeed and all that, but there’s a fair chance other people will judge you negatively due to their own ignorance on the topic.

People likely won’t even notice you. When’s the last time you studied what someone else was eating or drinking at a restaurant? The only one who may have thoughts is the waiter and who cares 🤷🏼‍♀️ if they want a tip they won’t say anything lol

My thought is who cares? Will those people ever see you again? Do you care about them? Moms deserve a drink here and there. Heck, I got drunk last night for the first time in like a year and my son was sleeping and we were at home and had some friends over and had too many drinks. 🤷‍♀️ If someone with their baby had a drink and I was at a restaurant I'd be like yep she deserves it. Screw everyone else.

Really depends on your alcohol tolerance level. Will you be completely fine to drive after that one drink considering you haven’t had alcohol in a while ? For me, I don’t drink ever so even few sips of red wine or liquor would make me a little tipsy. Having a drink while breastfeeding doesn’t make you a bad mom, it’s more about if you’ll be fine to drive or take care of the newborn after that drink.

I hit the wrong button! I say, please learn from now there will always be someone who will judge you. Even in your own family. I’m still learning too, and I’m on my third child lol.

I mean, I wouldn't drink a bottle of wine! Bit one or two glasses over a long period of time will be fine. It's nothing like drinking in pregnancy

If you wait 2 hours between drinking and feeding there won’t be any alcohol left in your system. 
You might have people judging you though, there’s not 100% way of knowing this beforehand. You get judgement for a lot of things as a parent though. If you feel you’re able to deal with any comments vs feeling a bit vulnerable and wanting to protect yourself, this should also be a consideration.

I worry about the same thing and my baby is 12 weeks! I still haven’t had a drink because I don’t really know what the protocol is and what’s ok for an exclusively breastfed baby. Everything is so confusing when I research it.
