Have you ever felt envy of a friend?

Loren

So my friend and I were talking, and the topic of friendship envy emerged.

I believe that friendship envy can materialize in different ways (projection, internalization, comparison, competition, false celebration, etc). But envy is a completely normal human emotion (even in friendship)— and it’s your job to own the emotion, explore the nature of the emotion, wash the emotion from your heart, apologize (if necessary), and take action towards managing your own sense of lack.

My friend, on the other hand, said that she may feel envious of others. But when it comes to friendship, there is no envy. She is happy all the time for her friends, no matter her personal circumstance. If she feels like her friend is winning in areas of her life that she’s like to win, she’d simply partner with the friend. And figure out how to raise her own life’s circumstance. But envy just doesn’t exist.

What are your thoughts? Can you be envy of a friend & do the work? Or does envy just not exist in your intimate relationships.
