Does my baby even like me? My pregnancy and birth were both stressful and traumatic. My baby is almost 1 month old and he never smiles or seems happy. If hes not asleep he’s crying, if he’s not eating he’s crying. He’s calm with other people but not me?

Of course he loves you hes just got something going on. Have you looked into gas and colic pains. 
Sometimes some babies are just cranky. 
I suggest you get looked over for baby blues and ppd this post sounds like a cry to me.

Babies usually don’t smile at that age, if they do it’s just a reflex! Nothing to worry about. He loves you absolutely. But babies are very intune with how people are feeling. If your stressed, baby will be stressed. If your sad, baby is sad. But if you’re happy, baby is happy! Baby could also be having gas, or is having colic. I would bring it up to babies pediatrician at the one month checkup

1 month is too early to smile. Once the smiles do happen it actually does make things mentally easier. The first few months are the toughest and it does feel like they are unhappy most of the time but remember the only way they have to communicate with you is crying.  They don’t babble yet, if they want anything at all it’s usually said in the form of a cry.  Also sometimes babies that young might have moments they cry for no reason we can figure out.  It gets better as they grow and become more widely expressive.  Hang in there but also talk to your doctor about your feelings if it is overwhelming.

It could very well be because he smells mama’s milk whenever you are near. It’s common for newborns to be that way.
