Is it normal for my 19 month old to wake up screaming in the night and not settle unless we stay with him?

Is this normal separation anxiety? My husband has had to sleep beside his crib the last few nights because he wakes up frantic looking for us. And he only settles when my husband talks to him and comforts him.

it’s a phase but not one you want to coddle too much or they’ll be even worse!!

My son started doing this and I’m assuming it’s the dreaded 18mo sleep regression. He started waking up screaming at 17 month and would not settle unless we slept with him. A few of those nights i brought him into my bed and noticed he was having nightmares and thrashing his body around and crying in his sleep if i didn’t hug him/start kissing him he’d pop up uncontrollably crying. It was so rough but 6 weeks later and he’s back to normal. Just know It’ll get better

We are going through something similar currently. 18 month old used to go to sleep in her crib and stay asleep, now for the past few weeks she only sleeps in our bed or a few hours at a time in her crib. It’s been rough.

Sounds like night terrors to me.

Yes it can be normal but I’d keep an eye on it honestly. My 2 year old has been doing that since he was a little over a year old and we figured out that he actually had night terrors. Maybe look into that and see if that’s possibly what’s going on? Likely not but never hurts to be safe!
