Pain meds while breastfeeding

Hi I wanted to see if anyone had experience in this my doctor said it’s ok as long I take my medication as prescribed but I have a hard time believing it’s ok to do so. So I take Vicodin daily about 1-3 pills a day of 5mg ( I take like 2-3 around my period for painful periods ) other times I take it for pelvic pain cause I have endometriosis and painful cysts . My doctor says it’s ok to breastfeed while taking these and I see on the web it’s ok short term but what about long term? Has anyone ever been on pain medication long term during breastfeeding? I just want to make sure baby is healthy I would love to breastfeed but not if it’s dangerous for baby and unfortunately I can’t with stand the pain I would be stuck in bed all day . Can someone tell me their thoughts and or experiences?
