HPV worry

I've just had a smear test (in UK) and found out I have HPV. This may be a stupid question but I had my first smear test 3 years ago after I had my 3rd child and turned 25, nothing showed up on that test now on this one it says I have it. I have been with my husband 10 years. Again I don't know if this is a stupid question or not. But due to me not having it on my last test would this mean he has cheated in the mean time as it was negative last time. I know they said it can lay dormant but wouldn't it show up on a smear test regardless. Obviously I'm more worried about the cervical cancer risk but I can't get this out of my mind I did try to Google it but nothing really comes up 😬
