Can I get a restraining order for this?

My ex husband is a violent and troubled person. One of his friends messaged me and said I needed to call them ASAP. He told me that my ex husband has told him that he plans on doing things to show me how mad he is about things pertaining to our divorce.

If his friend has texts of it, you can show proof of his intention to harm you

He hasn’t actually done anything so they probably won’t but you can make a complaint say your feel threatened see if they can do anything about it

I think this depends on the system where you live. Contact the local police and get their advice. My friend was told she could get one over something similar, however, there were kids involved and it would make things very messy. For example, if he showed up first in public where the girls play basketball, she couldn’t go in due to her having to stay away from him as well. I think it’s important to have a report made, though.

Yes you can. How the law is in your state will determine how the restraining order happens. Where I am I can go in and file it and give the proof I have and they will mandate a fast court hearing where the person I’m filing against has to show up and if the judge decides my testimony and any evidence is adequate, it’s granted right away. 
You should look up the law in your state about restraining orders and what kind of evidence if any you need. You don’t always need any evidence. Sometimes you can tell them what happened and the judge will issue a temporary restraining order anyway. But I think that text is good enough especially if the friend is willing to do a verbal or ￼written statement of exactly what he said to him.
