Boyfriend wants to buy fixer uppers to rent out, I think it’s a bad idea, help?

This past week, my boyfriend went to a national fishing lure conference.

While there, he met a man named Tony Thomason, who I guess is worth millions after flipping and renting out houses.

He convinced my boyfriend it’s all about equity in life, and that our first house should be a fixer upper we live in and work on for two-three years, rent that out, and buy a nicer house, then keep buying, renovating, and renting out houses.

I told my boyfriend that there’s no guarantee that’ll work for us, and it probably won’t.

We both have decent paying jobs and would love middle-upper middle class, however, he wants to be rich. He grew up very poor and doesn’t want to go back.

I explained we both work full time jobs and won’t be able to keep up with renovations, he said “so did tony”

I explained being a landlord comes with a lot or responsibility, but he just said it would be another job.

Idk what to do, I don’t want to spend the next 10 years renovating and renting out houses, especially with the fact we plan to have kids.

He’s convinced we can make a lot of money from this, but it just feels like this is a 1 in a million “get rich quick” scheme.

Edit:

We live in a rural area in Michigan.
