Always getting weird advice

I started a job at a new work location for the summer about 3 weeks ago. I am just now getting a little more comfortable with some of my coworkers and we have begun sharing life details. No one there is really my age, 21. They’re either 30+ or 19, and I gravitate towards the older coworkers. I got the same question from everyone, “how old are you and do you have kids?” (I work in a school). I’m honest about my age of course and when I say that I don’t have any kids, they congratulate me 😂 Every time.

Today I decided to open up a little bit because one coworker, who’s 50, asked me when I wanted to have kids. I told her that we are currently trying, and have been trying for a year. She was encouraging at first and said “it’ll happen, you’re young”. And then she turned around and gave me “advice” about how when you have kids “your life is over” and your man leaves you… She’s a *single mom* of 3. She said that when you’re a mom you can’t do anything anymore except worry about your kids and then she said “it’s the most amazing thing though”. She also said that after being a single mom to her oldest two kids, she purposefully got pregnant again with her 3rd child by another man.. so clearly it’s not as bad as you make it seem if you plan to have more. She made comments about how she has never understood the women that want to have kids very young. She had her first at 25. My fiancé is 24 so not that big of a difference. I explained to her that I didn’t just wake up one day with baby fever, I have been wanting to be a mom since I was a baby myself. I can explain it to people all day but I can’t change how they feel about young parents so I won’t even try 🙅🏽‍♀️ I would just like people that I open up too to be more supportive. Especially if you ask me about kids directly and I’m honest about my struggle, don’t try to discourage me.
