4WK1D 1st appt question is this right??

Question

First time pregnant. Yesterday I had faint lines and today I got positives on both regular and digital tests. I haven’t told anyone I’m pregnant yet, so I read on here to call doc right away. I did and they want to see me tomorrow. I read they do blood work to confirm pregnancy. However, the lady on the phone said they do a urine sample and a vaginal and breast exam, NO blood test? I asked so they won’t confirm pregnancy? She said they would do that when I come to first ultrasound?? 
They said they do the vaginal exams to check for yeast or any bacterial infections?? I just had a Pap smear, everything was normal. I’ve also never had a irregular pap or yeast infection?? I’m so confused. Is this normal???

that does NOT sound normal your breast and vagina don't need to be examined this early, infact your breasts NEVER get examined during pregnancy I would find a new doctor

Sounds very strange.. I’m from UK and I phoned my GP straight away who got me in at 8 weeks for blood tests urine sample etc. no breast, or vaginal checks. This is my second baby and was the same with my first

That’s weird . If you just had a pap smear done there’s no need to do it again and you can decline it . Do they mean an actual breast exam or the dr just checking ? I’ve had my dr with both pregnancy’s check mine but not at the first appointment . 4 weeks would be super early to do an ultrasound and see much but they could do blood if you wanted . Routine  for my office is they confirm pregnancy between 6-8 weeks with ultrasound . Then at the next appointment which is usually around 11-12 weeks they will take blood and they did do a pap smear this time I don’t remember that with my first . You don’t have to go in if you don’t want too. Tell them you want to wait till they can confirm with an ultrasound . If they say anything weird about it maybe looking into a new drs office would be a good idea . Either way they can’t do anything you don’t consent too.

I would call somewhere else. I had just had my smear like 3 months prior to going in for my first appointment (8wks) and they just asked if it was normal and I said yes. They do a vaginal exam for any infections either. I know some places definitely do like to do a Pap smear right away. But I was 4wks when I called to make the appointment and they scheduled me for 8wks so I had to wait a month to see them. Then they did a transvaginal ultrasound in case I wasn’t 8wks and tested blood and urine. I guess they could be testing your urine to confirm pregnancy instead of a blood test? Either way I’d maybe call a different office and just see what they say

Hey I don't know where you are so it's hard to say. I'm in Ireland and my sister is about 8 weeks pregnant. She made her first appointment with the gp to confirm pregnancy. They did this using a urine sample. In the meantime they sent her info to the local maternity (to register her for the national maternity scheme) who then issue her with her pregnancy appointments such as 3 month ultrasound themselves, but she does have to go back to her gp next week for a general health check, blood pressure and that. Not sure if it includes bloods, but it doesn't include breast or vaginal checks, which they would do if there was a specific concern I guess. It could be a different process wherever you are based though.
