Would you ever do two first names?

Question

My SO would like to name our daughter after his grandmother, who raised him. Her name was Maria. We also adore the name Chiara. 
His suggestion is to do Maria Chiara as two first names, and we'll call her Chiara. 
I said if we're going to call her Chiara, why not just do Chiara as the first name and Maria(or a variation of Maria) as the middle name? 
He is really stuck on Maria being part of the first name. 
I have to be honest, I don't like the flow of Maria Chiara, especially when it comes to the English pronunciation. 
And if we did do Maria Chiara as the first name, should we even bother with a middle name?

Absolutely never in a million years would I burden my child with two first names. I have two first names and as an adult, it's a nightmare. There's never enough room on forms to fill out. The people who put the information from written forms into the computer inevitably get it wrong, whether they leave one name off or somehow reverse it. Which means for medical issues, I end up getting sent tons of bills saying they were denied by insurance because the person on the forms is not covered since they fucked my name up (usually they do it backwards.) 
My parents did it because my mom wanted one name and my dad wanted another. They couldn't agree so I ended up with a double barrel name. I only go by the first half anyway which I feel like MOST people with double barrel names do. And so not even sure the point of my second name at all.
So no. I would not ever, ever, ever give a child two first names or even two middle names.

Chiara Maria as a first name has a better flow. And makes more sense if you plan on just going by the first

I personally think two first names is unnecessarily cumbersome and tends to complicate all official and government forms. I’ve known a couple of people with two first names and they hate it. Every time they fly etc.  they run into problems because inevitably something somewhere doesn’t match up and they have to deal with extra steps and time to get it cleared up. 
If he’s really stuck on Maria as a first name you could always just have her go by her middle name. That’s pretty common. Though I tend to agree with you that you should just name her what you want to call her and use Maria as a MN.

So my parents had this same issue with my middle sister. They went with the very personal name as the first name and the middle name as the one they really loved. She’s always gone by her middle name. So why not just have her middle name as Chiara and call her by that. That way you both get what you want. 💁🏼‍♀️

I don’t like 2 first names. I think it sounds like you’re honoring his grandma enough by including Maria at all, and if he wants to compromise he will get over it being the middle name like you like. This is a team effort. He doesn’t get to totally decide the name and placement of names all by himself.

I don't have personal experience but I think 2 names would be difficult. You could make Maria the first name and Chiara the middle name and still call her Chiara. A lot of people go by their middle names. 😊

Flow is bad, I’d do Marie or Annamarie or Anmaria as a middle name I really don’t care for double middle names 
I also don’t like that they both end in AH

My niece has two first names and a middle name. Though the two first names are hyphenated: Ayla-Marie but she just goes by Ayla. You get to choose what you want your little ones name to be so choose what you and your partner agree upon for the name.

I know that in the old days, it was common for girls to be named Maria/Mary first and then their "go by" name, such as Mary Angela, Mary Theresa, Maria Adeline etc etc. I just don't know about that flying now without causing confusion.

Two first names, why not? But im afraid if Maria goes first in the order, people might end up calling her Maria which is not the goal. How about Chiara Maria?
