Airport full body scanners and children: appropriate?

What do you think about the airport full body scanners?  I never considered it until now, but I realized that children are sometimes sent through the scanner should they not choose a patdown. I just saw a tiktok where a man showed his scan and you can see a clear outline of his genitals. It reminded me of the time I was 11 and had to go through this scanner. They made me choose between the patdown and scanner and I chose the scanner after pressure from the TSA agent getting upset at me. The image was being analyzed by a man in the open in a booth and showed my entire body.

I’d rather the scanner than a pat down. It only takes one asshole stashing a weapon on a child for something horrible to happen. 
I wish they’d do privacy screens though. Just the cheap ass ones like they have in the vaccination booths at Walgreens. That way scans are only visible to the professional doing the screening.

I say scanner over a pat down. People stash weapons, drugs, and who else knows what on kids thinking they’re less likely to be searched compared to an adult.

They do show a level of genitalia, it’s often not very defined on females but it is on males, and personally I think they are unnecessary. Post-9/11 paranoia is far too extreme. Metal detectors, bag checks, and leg/arm checks are sufficient in my opinion. Out of all of the terroristic activities in America, how many are on planes these days? It’s not because TSA is thwarting them every day, it’s because it’s simply not happening. Terrorism and domestic terrorism has been occurring in the form of mass shootings in large groups, yet the government is doing *nothing* to address that. Instead the focus is on airport security, perpetuating this idea that an Arab guy with a bomb is on every flight so that’s why TSA has to scream at you and toss your belongings around like you’re trash.

The person viewing the scans is just doing their job. As far as scanning children, obviously there is a need to scan everyone (as others have mentioned), but if you’re suggesting that the person viewing the scans is some ‘old perv’, I’d probably prefer them looking at x-ray scans than patting down my child

I’m sorry but it’s not uncommon in some country’s to load children with weapons of destruction my cousin did a few bids in Iraq in a protected vehicle and they would push children strapped with bombs into and under the tank. He’s absolutely traumatized from the shit he saw across seas I mean and no one would suspect a child but I still agree that adults do crazy shit and a person trying to hijack a plane or even bomb one would go to this exact extreme because no one would suspect a child.

When we fly with our kids we are always walked together through the medal detectors (as a family unit) the kids have never gone through the medal detectors … that’s weird. What country was that?

I would like to know that I’m not going to blow up with my family in a plane so yes to scanners and whatever else is going to let me watch my kids grow. We need to stop making a big deal out of everything we don’t like or believe in.
